The story of the people of Dadn and Liyhn
Prophet Khidr came to me and said:
“Peace be upon you, Ahmad Al-Makhfiy. Indeed, I have received news from Allah, the Almighty, which you must write down. Do not omit a single word of what I say and of what we discuss today.
O Ahmad, I shall narrate to you the story of the people of Dadn and Liyhn. Most of them worshiped the idol Waad. Truly, Waad was once a prophet, a righteous young man who taught his people to engage in trade, agriculture, and excelled in law, wise regulations, and justice for his people. Among them were those skilled in carving mountains, some proficient in reading and writing, while others were adept at weaving and “softening iron” with fire, enabling them to craft beautiful and remarkable tools. Prophet Waad and his three brothers, along with their sister, became role models for their community.
O Ahmad, Allah tested that community by taking the lives of the five righteous descendants of Prophet Adam (AS) in succession. This plunged the land into mourning and grief, giving Iblis (may Allah curse him) an opportunity. Through the descendants of Qabil, particularly Daramsyl, he elevated Waad and Suwa into towering idols. However, these were destroyed when the flood, as decreed by Allah, came as evidence of the truth carried by Prophet Nuh (AS). It was a reminder for all humanity not to worship anyone but Allah. Indeed, Daramsyl was a craftsman of iron, gold, and silver, whose deceptions led him to power as a king. Yet Allah destroyed him with a severe punishment. Verily, Allah is the Creator and Sovereign of all His creations.
O Ahmad, the land of Dadn, far removed in time from the flood that Allah sent upon those who transgressed and rejected the warnings brought by Prophet Nuh AS, had its king and people transgress beyond limits. They built towering idols of Waad and Suwa, which they carved and coated with hardened lime. Indeed, they were among Allah's servants who were heedless and ungrateful.
O Ahmad, they killed and oppressed one another until the land of Dadn was overpowered by the people of Thamud (Nabateans). These people praised the idols Waad and Suwa and were among the disbelievers. The people of Liyhn, skilled yet arrogant craftsmen, destroyed the devout and righteous. Allah then sent Prophet Salih to guide them back to the straight path, yet they persisted in their disbelief.
O Ahmad, Allah revealed His power over the Thamud people, but they ignored the warnings of Prophet Salih. Some even plotted to kill him with their wicked hands. Allah sent stones and lightning to destroy many of them in their homes, but He saved Prophet Salih and his followers. Such is Allah’s promise to those who are patient in obeying His commands. Allah’s help and protection are real. Let this story serve as a lesson, and be patient.
O Ahmad, prostrate and praise Allah for granting me permission to narrate this to you so that the people of the end times may heed it.
O Ahmad, seek out 20 stalks of hubul bun with leaves, and send them to the land of your brother. Then, instruct several of your followers, whose names I have mentioned, to plant them in the fields of your followers, also named. Pray with the supplication I have taught you. After seven days, send back 21 stalks of the same hubul bun along with 10 fig trees that I will provide. Plant them again in the fields in your brother's land. Let them be patient in tending the trees and observing them, for Allah loves His servants who care for and cherish His creations.
O Ahmad, quickly establish a trading post and a place to carry out all that I have informed you. Build a specific space there where you and several dogs may find peace while carrying out Allah’s commands. Be patient, for this is a test for you. Be assured that Allah does not waste the good deeds of His servants, even as small as feeding or giving water to a dog.
Remember, some of your followers provided food, drink, and shelter to a mother dog and her puppies who might have perished in the rain and flood. Who brought those dogs to you? Could they not have found shelter elsewhere among the houses of your companions? Truly, Allah brought them to you as a test, though they were unaware of the wisdom Allah would bestow upon them.
Did not your noble grandfather, Prophet Muhammad (SAW), protect a mother dog and her puppies in the sacred courtyard of the mosque? And did not Allah, through Angel Jibril, forbid him from killing a dog in his blessed house? Had your grandfather, the noble Muhammad (SAW), killed the dog, Allah would have destroyed all dogs in the world. The state of humanity’s fields and lands would have worsened, for mice and pests would have ravaged the crops and destroyed the earth’s goodness. This is a sign of Allah’s justice, wherein all creatures depend on and benefit from one another.
O Ahmad, write down what I have narrated to you, and do not omit a single word. Be patient with the insults and criticisms, for Allah has already disgraced some of those who insult you. Be patient.”
