The Mention of 14 Companions & the Command to Spend Wealth on the Poor in Ramadan
Prophet Khidr AS Came to me after we had broken our
fast, Prophet Khidr AS came to me and, after greeting me, said:
Yahafidal'iinsanannabil…. indeed,
I have come to you at a crucial time. You must write down everything I convey
to you so that not a single word is left out or forgotten. This advice comes to
you from your noble grandfather, Muhammad.
Indeed, he said:
O Khidr AS, tell Ahmad about the character of a stepfather and a stepbrother toward their younger
siblings. I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, have always loved Khadijah’s children
with all my heart and soul, advising them to obey Allah and do good to all of
His creatures. I am not obligated to provide for them as long as their mother
is able to do so. However, what is best in the sight of Allah and in my sight
is to provide for them according to one’s ability. As for step-siblings, they
should be treated as I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, treated my foster sister,
Syaimah. He must also respect his brothers-in-law and be cautious around his
unmarried sisters-in-law. He must be patient with the attitudes of both his
biological and stepchildren, as well as with his in-laws. He should strive to
be the best among the families of his two wives.
O Khidr, I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, want my advice
to be written down by Ahmad so that he and those around him can understand it.
His wives must not hinder his efforts in upholding the ship that I have
anchored, bearing the inscription 'Alif Lam Mim and Ain Saad.' Indeed,
Ahmad Fahmi bin A. Syams is obligated to follow my advice, for if he neglects
his ship, he has no right to my intercession.
O Khidr, Allah, the Lord of the worlds, has decreed
a clear destiny for him. Nothing that happens by his hands occurs except by
Allah’s will. He must remain patient and steadfast in carrying out my trust.
Has Allah not sufficed him with 'both of
his hands,' so that whatever he touches becomes a cure for some of my
people? And has Allah not sent him two companions who, to this day, willingly
sacrifice part of their wealth for the great trade that Allah has shown him?
O Khidr, tell Ahmad that Allah AzzawaJalla has
spoken to me, commanding you to convey to him: 'There is no comparison between those who light a fire to illuminate
their path on a mountain, searching for provisions and a way home, and those
who light a fire merely to warm themselves on a high mountain, waiting for
help. When the fire goes out, they perish in their delusions and the cold of
the night. This is the parable of those who seek the light of Allah’s guidance,
perform righteous deeds, and continue to strive alongside you in this year's
Ramadan, compared to those who believe only in their own opinions and ultimately
suffer loss in this world and the Hereafter.’
O Khidr, my brother, I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, turn
away from my ummah who end Ramadan while leaving orphans and the poor in tears.
Likewise, I will turn away from my grandson, Ahmad Fahmi bin A. Syams, if he
neglects the poor and orphans in his home. If, during this Ramadan, he spends
money only on himself instead of fulfilling the rights of his wives, children,
stepchildren, and siblings, freeing slaves, and secretly helping orphans and
the poor, then on the Day of Judgment, I will abandon him and cast him into
Jahannam. Tell Ahmad to remain patient
in carrying out the 13 commandments of Allah given to him.
O Khidr, my brother, tell Ahmad Fahmi bin A. Syams
that I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, the Messenger of Allah, continue to watch over
him and his 14 companions, just as I watched over my 73 companions who migrated
with me to Madinah. Indeed, among those fourteen, there are four whom I will
visit in their dreams this month. And I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, disregard his
followers who have pledged allegiance but lament their lack of wealth, thereby
saddening the heart of my grandson, even though in his hands lies the key to
Allah’s blessings if they remain patient.
Prophet Khidr AS then said:
O Ahmad, write this down and do not feel burdened
by it. Indeed, I, Khidr, know that you are a shy person and that writing this
weighs heavily on you.
