Prophet Khidr spoke to me from a very great distance, in the midst of my rest with my two wives and two companions:
“O Ahmad, there is no doubt in me about what you are doing in carrying out the commands, for everything you carry out appears true and real. Do they not realise that all you carry out is nothing but by the command of Allah, the Most Glorious, in testing them and your loyal followers? Indeed, if they were to see what you see and read what you read upon the expanse of my turban, they would see nothing but the long and heavy journey that you will endure. Let them guard their hearts against the devils that will veil their hearts and minds, until they rain you with questions and their tongues overflow with words as though giving you guidance. Is it not that all you do does not deviate in the least from the command and guidance of Allah? Truly, they do not understand the path you have taken and the path you are yet to take.
O Ahmad, disregard those who reject the command and accuse you of falsehood. Surely, he will find no peace until he comes to you with anger, then seeks your forgiveness. You must forgive him, yet turn him away from accompanying you. He is given only one chance, because of his vile tongue and wicked deeds. He has not wronged you; rather, he has cast himself into the deep pit of disgrace.
O Ahmad, for some of your followers, there remains no more than five days for them to endure. Has it not become clear that what they have done is a mistake? They are like the hypocrites in the time of your Grandfather, who still believed in Allah and the Noble Prophet Muhammad, yet when a heavy command came, they refused to struggle alongside the Noble Prophet Muhammad, while claiming they still worshipped the One Allah. Indeed, they are like people walking together in darkness with someone holding a light, yet they chose another path, for the sake of an easier way, though it is pitch black. Such is the parable of those who refused to fight in the time of the Messenger of Allah, for they feared death and poverty. Do they not understand that walking with the light of Allah will surely bring greater blessings and safety? Let them reflect.
O Ahmad, the livestock you are commanded to tend will grow faster than the rest, by what you prepare for their food and medicine. Take thirteen of one kind of animal as an example for your followers, until Allah supports you again with clear proofs. Let your followers strive to fulfil your needs for the place I have shown you, and make those pools into two parts. Then build upon them a structure where you will meet those who come – namely, the worldly officials and the nobles. They will feel as though they are in the time of your Grandfather in that place. Indeed, what Allah commands will feel heavy, for in the hearts of your chosen followers still remain worldly desires and devils.
O Ahmad, the insults and betrayals against you will bring disaster upon them, and upon those who pride themselves in slandering you with their tongues. Allah will not leave you in grief; rather, He will send you replacements better than the best. It is not befitting for one to swear by Allah’s name and then lie. Indeed, I, Balya bin Malkan, bear witness to it. Truly, you are not at fault in this matter. Within three weeks you must be patient and carry out the obligations above all obligations, until three stand by the sea, and Allah shows 313 stars falling – a sign of the fall of the devils and the collapse of the arrogance of an oppressive nation. Then go to Madinah, so that Allah may soothe your heart. None is worthy to be with you except those of pure heart and sincerity.
O Ahmad, be patient, for the help of Allah will surely come. Do not be troubled by the commands you have yet to carry out. You must remind your followers who have been given commands, for Allah will not open the opportunity for them again. Did they not precede you until they received rebuke? Were they not the ones who erred and thus their journey became heavy? They once thought they could help you by their efforts behind you. Did they succeed? Let them reform themselves.
O Ahmad, test those who will come into your Ark, for they will be many. Be patient, and do not be hasty in deciding upon the offers from those newly entering your Ark. Seek instead from your three followers regarding the land and the pools, for that is better for you to do.
O Ahmad, indeed the three rumblings above your head are a sign that you must fulfil all His commands within the next three weeks. Be patient, and take the best as a replacement. Truly, it is Allah who gives the commands, not by your own will nor that of your followers. Return to your place of work and fulfil what is obligatory for you. Surely Allah will extinguish the light in certain places in your land for several days.”
