“Zainabataan, whom the Muhammad saw (Messenger of Allah)
yearns for.”
Prophet Khidr AS came to me, this time wearing a beautiful green robe and a
white turban tinged with green, soft and radiant.
He greeted me, and I saw his eyes glistening with tears. He said:
“O Ahmad, truly on every night of the birth of your Noble Grandfather, the angels, the maidens of Paradise, and the prophets welcome him with splendid garments, chanting blessings from evening until dawn. Indeed, on this night I left Mount Qaf only to deliver a message that you must write down. Listen carefully and record it with full attention.
O Ahmad, there is no day more joyous for the inhabitants of the heavens and the creatures of the earth than the moment of the birth of the Pure and Preserved Human, whom Allah created unlike any other human being from the beginning to the end. Indeed, the true scholars of the Scriptures at that time, those who truly understood their books, found peace and clear faith.
O Ahmad, on this night—the night of the birth of the Noble Prophet Muhammad SAW—Allah commands millions of recording angels, swift in their duty, to write down the names of the Prophet’s community who will surely receive Mercy and Intercession, and also the names of those whom Allah distances from that Mercy and Intercession. Surely Allah knows all that is in the hearts.
O Ahmad, upon the faces of Allah’s servants who love the Messenger of Allah and uphold his Sunnah, there is nothing visible but the light of the Prophet’s love for them. On the Day of Resurrection, they will be recognised by the Noble Prophet Muhammad, so long as they guard their love for Allah and His Messenger until death takes them. Thus, they will be spared from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hellfire. Truly Allah is the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful.
O Ahmad, do you not see how Allah causes seeds to grow into many flourishing green trees, which people may harvest in only twenty-four days, yielding plentiful and good produce? This is because of what you have taught them regarding agricultural zakat. You must continue to proclaim the rulings on zakat in farming that I have taught you, just as your Noble Grandfather Muhammad established.
O Ahmad, remain steadfast in your asceticism, and pay no heed to those whose hearts are attached to the world. They are not permitted to meet you except by a firm covenant and in the company of those whom Allah has appointed as your deputies. Indeed, those who are attached to worldly gain will find no blessing in what you produce unless they redeem it with 150 dinars of this age. From that wealth, you must take 30% to provide for the poor and the orphans in a house that you will establish with your followers, and those who serve within it shall receive rightful wages. This is your duty to arrange with justice, as the leader appointed by Allah. Know that your foolish and hard-hearted descendants have no rightful claim over what you possess.
O Ahmad, from 700 kilograms of rice, from fruitful trees, and from trees that produce beneficial sap—all of these carry the rights of the poor and the orphans. They will find no blessing unless they pay zakat. Tell your followers who engage in farming of the obligation of zakat, choosing the best of what they cultivate. This will bring them blessings in both this world and the Hereafter. If they pledge allegiance to you, Allah will send rain upon their fields as a sign of the blessing they will receive.
O Ahmad, let your companion take heed of what you have taught him, so that he may bring fertility to the rice fields of his land. And tell them that it is Allah who causes seeds to grow into healthy and beautiful trees, more than what they themselves sow. For Allah can do all things with ease.
O Ahmad, do they not see how Allah heals the sick through what you have created? These are illnesses that even scholars and physicians cannot cure. Even non-Muslims are healed by Allah within seven days of one illness, and thereafter Allah heals other ailments within them—merely because they accept your message and believe in the 1,223 verses of the Qur’an as a cure for every affliction they suffer. Truly, your Noble Grandfather Muhammad SAW smiles upon the good you do and the noble character you show to others. It is Allah who heals, out of His love for your Grandfather Muhammad, and because you act righteously with noble character towards people. So remain firm upon what your Grandfather has conveyed, with clear noble character.
O Ahmad, truly your journey with your first wife is a journey of “ascent” towards the gate of happiness in this world and the Hereafter—a key to blessings for all within your vessel. You and your wife must be grateful and guard your hearts with patience and sincerity. No burden will be too heavy in your lives, for whatever Allah withholds or delays will bring goodness and blessings afterwards if you endure with patience and steadfast hearts. I call her Zainabataan (“Two Zainabs within her”), as written in the records of the best women in the sight of Allah. She must understand this, and guard her tongue from disgrace. Many of your female followers praise her with abundant prayers, and her advice softens their hearts so they may become women who guard their marriages. Many women have repented and turned away from harsh words towards their husbands, bringing goodness in both worlds.
O Ahmad, convey to your first wife the words of your Noble Grandfather which he delivered to me in a dream:
‘O Zainabataan, I, Muhammad bin Abdullah, am not unwilling to meet you again in your dreams, for your longing and yearning for Muhammad are known to me. Your name, and the names of those for whom you seek Allah’s forgiveness, are already within my grasp.
O Zainabataan, the radiance upon your face is unlike other women of your time—not because you are married to the grandson of Muhammad, but because of your sacrifices for your parents and siblings, and your love for the poor. Allah veils your faults until you stand before Him among the patient ones.
O Zainabataan, do not compel your husband to feel no awe towards you. Indeed, I, Muhammad, have placed my light within you, so that your husband feels constant wonder towards you, unchanging from beginning to end.
O Zainabataan, soften your voice when you speak. Truly, no secret letter I write to you in your dreams, nor my vision of you within them, will ever reach you except during times of calmness.
O Zainabataan, adornment is not true beauty unless it adorns the heart with tranquillity with Allah. And there is no barrier between your salutations upon me and my hearing of them. Among your invocations, there are moments when your blessings upon me bring me joy, especially when your heart feels that Muhammad is like a father, a companion, and a place of rest for you, as if you lean upon my shoulder and fall asleep. None of the invocations of my people are uttered except that Allah creates angels to record them and deliver them to me.
O Zainabataan, there is no woman I long to be with alongside my two Zainabs except you, on the Day of Reckoning. Guard your heart against ill thoughts, and remain steadfast.
O Zainabataan, as a sign of the truth of what your husband has written, Allah will grant you the sign you seek. So recite: ASSOLATU WA SSALAMU ‘ALAIKA YA JADDIY YA HABIBI QOLBI YA MUHAMMAD RASULULLAH before and after it. May Allah accept it.’
From the one who longs for you,
Muhammad bin Abdullah.
O Ahmad, I, Balya bin Malkan, have seen and heard the finest prayers of your first wife. Yet the one prayer that Allah does not grant is her plea to die before you and enter Paradise first. Truly, she is a woman purified by Allah of her past sins through severe trials. In Allah’s sight, you are now beneath her rank. So hasten to better yourself. Who else but Allah calms your wives so they can accept every command given to you? Her trials did not last long, for they came in the month when your Noble Grandfather was in his mother’s womb—the month of her joy.
O Ahmad, tell your followers who seek trade and farming to understand Allah’s laws concerning agriculture. Let them find land with sufficient water, and avoid suspicion and worldly attachment. Whatever they spend to build a home for sick orphans will bring blessings and ease in their own affairs. You must visit that house and recite the prayer I shall teach you, so that the five poor sick orphans there will be healed swiftly by Allah. You and your followers must care for their religious education and their future. Truly, it is your duty to be a father to them.
O Ahmad, tell your followers who engage in trade with you to cleanse themselves from idolatry and from objects that block blessings. There is no benefit in items that people claim hold hidden power; such things only distance them from Allah. Do they not realise these are but intoxicating lies of the tongue? You must be firm with them, for falsehood cannot mix with truth except that it destroys peace in the heart. Tell them: who else but Allah can make rice grow in abundance? Let them hasten to Allah’s forgiveness and cast away all that leads to shirk. Let them resist worldly temptations that exist only for profit. Is not your trade a means to manifest Allah’s power, to awaken the people to the dangers of usury and the obligation of zakat? Let them reflect and use sound reason.
O Ahmad, do not doubt the command given to you. For yesterday, when you argued with me harshly, you were in fact disputing with Allah Almighty. Repent, therefore. Did you not hesitate to save that woman from the flood waters that surged onto the land, when she was chosen by Allah? Close your eyes and ears, and listen to the words I shall give you after you have written down everything I have told you.
Do not turn away from me or argue with me again, or else Allah will seal your mouth with my hand.”
