The Devotion of MariyyaQithbiyyah and the Winged Ardha

Prophet Khidr AS came to me, in a manner and wearing a turban different from usual. He said:

“O Ahmad, do you know that I have been observing you since the month of Safar up to this very day?”Truly, your past mistake occurred when you were at the seaside, and Iblis managed to deceive you by using my name. Indeed, I was commanded by Allah to let you go through difficult times. Until yesterday, I watched you at the foot of the mountain during the KhalwatMalamatiyyah that I taught you. Truly, Allah helped you by calming your heart, allowing you to distinguish between truth and falsehood. You must repent and correct yourself. Even the wives of the Prophets were once deceived by the subtle tricks of Iblis.”

“O Ahmad, you are neither a Prophet nor someone safeguarded from the deception of Iblis and the devils. You must meet me again at the foot of that mountain together with several of your companions whom I have mentioned. There is no sin in what you have resolved in your heart. Has there not been a command for you to go to the seaside? Until one of your wives assumed that I was merely a devil whispering? Do not ignore the clear light of Allah’s guidance. Light cannot illuminate darkness if it is obstructed by dense fog — such is the parable of a heart veiled by doubt, for Allah’s guidance will not reach the heart of a servant. You must repent and be patient.”

“O Ahmad, I wear this different turban so that you may distinguish between me and Iblis, the accursed. You must recognise every writing on this turban of mine, until you see the script that can never be imitated by Iblis. You must remember it.”

“O Ahmad, let me tell you about MariyyaQithbiyyah — a beautiful bondwoman who devoted herself completely to your Noble Grandfather, Muhammad. Is this not a sign for you to convey her true story? Indeed, she was a woman who obeyed everything taught by your Noble Grandfather Muhammad. There was no doubt in her heart to become a wife of the Messenger of Allah, nor any fear when your Noble Grandfather informed her that she would be forbidden by Allah to marry any man after the passing of the Noble Messenger Muhammad. Truly, she preserved herself until the end of her life. You must reflect and understand her story.”

“O Ahmad, observe the swarming winged ardha(alates/termites) that hastily seek out light without reason. Even when the fire burns, they rush towards it — some burn and die, some break their wings and fall, some fall from exhaustion and die, some become prey to other creatures, and some fall into the water reflecting the flame. This is the parable of human beings who seek worldly pleasures without reason (driven only by desire), and who are blind to Allah’s clear guidance (the Qur’an). You must understand this, and you must distance yourself from such people. Be patient and make the best decision in every matter.”

“O Ahmad, a woman who is nusyuz, who reveals her aurah to other men who are not her mahram, who raises her voice at her husband while he is reciting Allah’s laws, and who asks for khulu‘ even though her husband has committed no sin forbidden by Allah — such women will not smell the fragrance of Allah’s Paradise. And Paradise is also forbidden, and the doors of sustenance closed, to women who seek divorce due to their love for worldly life.”

“O Ahmad, what has happened to you is by His will, so that the line between truth and falsehood becomes clear. A hard stone in a glass will never turn into water, even if your fingers stir it for a thousand years. This is the parable of a hardened, dead heart into which neither good counsel nor Allah’s true laws can enter. A heart hardened by love of the world deafens the ears and darkens the intellect. You must reflect.”

“O Ahmad, I understand your restlessness because I remained silent when you asked me certain questions and sought my help in various matters. Truly, I wished to help and answer you. Do you not understand that I do nothing except by the command of our Lord? Do not be saddened. A servant of Allah who is patient will never fall and be humiliated by thousands of slanders. Indeed, Allah is with the patient and with those who use their reason. You must reflect.”

“O Ahmad, Allah intends to raise the sea until it covers part of the land as a clear punishment upon that place. You must remain steadfast, and you must stand upon high ground when the tremors and the great waves strike the land. Ignore what Allah has decreed to be ignored, and do not grieve.”

“O Ahmad, forgiveness is a praiseworthy trait. Have you not known the cause of the sorrow of the inhabitants of the heavens — the hostility between Muslims, especially among those who have been decreed as your wives? Ignore those who do not obey Allah’s commands (in the Qur’an) and the sacred advice (Hadith). Indeed, the wife of my brother, Luth AS, was a good woman at first, but became exceedingly wicked and disgraceful in the end due to love of worldly life and ingratitude for Allah’s blessings.”

“O Ahmad, Allah has indeed revealed to the Prophets:

‘O Prophet! Say to your wives:

If you desire the worldly life and its adornments, then come, and I shall provide for you and release you with a gracious release.

But if you desire Allah, His Messenger, and the Hereafter, then indeed Allah has prepared a great reward for those among you who do good.’”

“O Ahmad, there is no obligation upon a man to give mut‘ah (a gift) to a woman who is nusyuz (one who abandons her husband). And Paradise is forbidden to a man who has no jealousy for his family (adayyuth), and to the man who remains silent without advising or preventing his wives who are ungrateful for Allah’s blessings and who commit sins (gossip, slander, arrogance, extravagance, calumny, adultery, and exposing their aurah).”
