Remaining Steadfast at Ainul Hayat: The Threefold Sincerity and the Trust of Leadership

Prophet Khidr (AS) came to me and asked:

“O Ahmad, indeed I wish for you to answer my question and recall the advice I once gave you several years ago, during our first meeting by the edge of Ainul Hayat. Now, write it down. May you remember it and remain steadfast in practising it.”

“O Ahmad, how many types of sincerity are there?”

In the name of Allah, I began my reply, seeking His permission and forgiveness:

“There are three types of sincere deeds:

It is obligatory for a person to be a sincere and certain servant of Allah (Ikhlas and Waatsiq):

1.       Sincerity in accepting Allah’s decree—be it punishment, trials, or calamities—with full awareness and patience. This includes losing a position, possessions, or someone dearly loved.

2.       Sincerity in accepting failure—whether in one’s work, struggles (even on the battlefield), business, competitions, or marriage—without resentment or anger towards Allah’s will.

Such a person does not despair but learns and strives to achieve success again after failure. They are sincere and certain of eventual success, searching within themselves for faults, sins, or shortcomings that might have led to Allah’s will being tested upon them.

They do not blame others, nor do they wail or beg from anyone besides Allah. Instead, they stay motivated, and their faith and piety towards Allah never diminish.

3.       Sincerity in enduring insults, slander, and false accusations—by ignoring them and avoiding their sources, remaining steadfast in doing good and wise deeds, holding no hatred or vengeance. They trust in Allah’s protection and assistance, and they are certain that patience will elevate their status in this world and in the sight of Allah.”

He (Prophet Khidr AS) smiled at me and said:

“O Ahmad, maintain perseverance, patience, and diligence in your heart and soul. Indeed, success in this world and eternal happiness in Paradise is not easily attained. Success is not measured merely by the number of followers or abundant capital, but by sincerity, diligence, wisdom, and the right knowledge and certainty on the path to both worldly and eternal success.”

“O Ahmad, do not limit your followers from helping your ship in business. Accept three of the remaining eleven among the forty-one who have journeyed with you in this venture. Be just towards all your followers, and prioritise those who are in your ship to sit with you in the two businesses. Remain as one who is hidden (Makhfiy). Remember Allah’s command at the edge of Ainul Hayat. Your duty is only to guide them to the straight path according to their destiny—so that you and they, within these two ventures, may spread love and transform themselves from poverty to becoming generous servants of Allah, righteous in spending their wealth—giving zakat, charity, and donations according to Shariah.

Let them be obedient to Allah’s laws, never rushing ahead of you in decisions, and staying far from the lures of Satan and desires.”

“O Ahmad, tell the two followers that they have reached the peak of Iblis’s hatred. Indeed, Iblis seeks to divide them. Iblis sees a weak point in one of their hearts. Be firm and stern with them, or both I and your grandfather will turn away from them.

Did not your noble grandfather Muhammad appear in both their dreams? Have they not faced severe trials and tribulations with patience alongside you? They understand only a little of their dreams—and yours. You must be strict with them, so Allah may protect and help them from the temptations of desire and Satan. They must purify their hearts from arrogance and envy—two traits that open their hearts to Iblis.

Let them support one another and strengthen each other, so they remain at an exalted rank in the sight of Allah. They have reached a high station before Allah—if only they think, and endure, and let sincerity fill their hearts.”

“O Ahmad, there is no reward for perseverance, patience, and sincerity except success and Allah’s help—arriving in the most beautiful and astonishing of ways.

Write this down! And do not let your heart be uneasy in writing it.”
